February 21, 2008 Hey everybody!!! I guess that I need to start this journal entry the same way that I started the last one. It
seems surreal that this much time has passed since my last entry. Much has happened in the rapidly moving last 8 months. There is highlight after highlight that can be mentioned......the women's conferences where the Holy Spirit fell so heavy that women walked away changed, the songs that were born for the new CD, wearing false eyelashes for the first time as I performed on the ICM Awards (smile), the powerful article written by Dawn Wilson that so beautifully conveyed Christ's mighty hand upon my life, that one hour chapel with the San Diego Christian College students where you could hear a pin drop as I read my daughter's testimony about how God revealed himself to her through the divorce of her father and I, hands raised as we played "Bring The Rain" at the recent Daily Disciples conference.....and the list goes on.
I was listening to J. Vernon McGee today on the radio as I drove to work and he spoke about the things that we as fleshly beings boast about. This is such a struggle for me, especially as a basically insecure individual. I just want to know that I am ok, that I am accepted and that I am doing a good job. I mean, don't we all want that? But as J. Vernon pointed out, all I am to boast of is Christ, for He is enough. Truly, I know in the depths of my soul that it is the love and power of Christ that makes all the joys that I have listed above a reality. I can dream all day long, but it is the Lord Jesus that breaths life into everything I do.
Isn't it amazing how much humility it requires to relinquish the glory to someone else after all the hard work that you have put into something? You may think that I am terrible for saying that, but I know that I am not alone. Maybe this is why people deny Jesus, or refuse to surrender their will unto His...control, pride, selfishness, the need for approval. I think of Mother Teresa frequently and am amazed by her desire to throw all caution to the wind, abandoned fleshly luxuries and just go out and love on the poorest of the poor. Wow! The Bible tells us that we are to "esteem others above ourselves", so it starts with giving glory where glory belongs. I tried repeatedly to become successful in music and to no avail. It is only because Jesus has my heart and has placed in it something of value that I now have something to give others. He is the passion in my song and is the one who gave
me the very gifts that He now calls me to use for His purposes. By Him all things consist.
My family and I have been in the midst of some significant trials and sometimes I find it hard to know how to pray. Yes, I have weaknesses. But God, just keeps His mighty hand on me and every time that I think that I cannot go another day..........I find that song in my heart and it just seems to take all the cares of the world away. Worship is for God, but in the process He refreshes us through it. He nourishes our souls with singing, He sings over us!!!!
My husband Dan just walked in here and went.......whoa, that's long. He is too funny. So, I guess that is my cue to wrap things up. As of right now, we are working to get the CD finished. It will be finished in God's timing and I do hope that it is by June. It will be a joy to see so many of you again and share this great new music. I will continue to post upcoming events on the front page and on the calendar. I will also send out little newsletters as time permits. Take good care dear ones, rest in the knowledge that He cares for you and sings over you!!! To God be the glory!
Blessings upon blessings, Mary
June 11, 2007
Has it really been this long??? The first 5 months of the year has flown by....I mean poof!!!! In addition to
the regular schedule, I was the interim worship leader at my church for several months. The position
taught me many things about serving in a church music ministry and though I thought it was what I
wanted, I learned very quickly that it was not my specific calling. I have great respect for those who are called to a position such as this.......great respect!!!!
Before and after my time at the church, I began writing songs for the new CD. Although I received a number of song pitches (thank you), I was looking for different subject matter and have been in much prayer about the songs that are to be included. I also decided to stay home and do the project as opposed spending several weeks in Nashville. Now that we have started production, I can see why I am right here at home.
The Lord clearly sent Gary Livesay into our lives for reasons that are beyond our understanding. Not only are he and his wife amazing godly people, he is quite the songwriter. Our combined efforts have resulted in what I believe to be some very powerful material. I cannot wait for you to hear it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
A new drummer, Darryl Marsh, joined us in May, as our faithful friend Bill Melton made some adjustments with his music schedule, so that he could spend more time with family. Darryl is a dear person and if you check out the gallery.....at the bottom of the individual pictures section, you can see the whole band. We are blessed to still have Mike Wiley playing Bass with us.
April brought my first #1 on the Power Source Top 100 - "Now That I Know Love". Who'd of thought??
The year has brought blessing after blessing, as we have been called to play in a variety of settings. We had a blast up in Gilroy last month and look forward to our return to Salinas in July. This years Daily Disciple Conference was the best ever and I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Bobbye Brooks and Tonilee Adamson for asking us to be a part of it. I am thoroughly enjoying their new book, "Building Divine Intimacy". Please be sure to get yourself a copy!!!!! You can obtain a copy on their website.
My greatest joy is hearing from all of you about how the music encourages you in your daily walk with the Lord or how you have been set free from whatever has been holding you captive. My desire is that I serve God without attachment to outcomes, but the honest truth is that I do care about outcomes most of the time. In this crazy thing called the music ministry business many of us secretly desire to "make it" in some capacity. I know in my heart of hearts that every time one of you shares with me how God has impacted your heart somehow through this ministry........that I have experienced the ultimate form of "making it". Please forgive me if I have ever come across in a way that has not been encouraging to you, it is not my desire.
Like the Israelites, I too find myself in the desert from time to time, shaking my fist at God wondering why He has left me. What I have come to understand is that I am just ungrateful and I easily forget the abundance of His love and care. Yesterday my son was at a pool party and he dove into a pool hitting his face at the bottom. He hit so hard that it caused his forehead to burst open, thus requiring 18 stitches. As we sat in the ER, it hit me.....he could be paralyzed. The first thing the doctor said was, " I have these cases several times a year, most of which result in paralysis." Every time I see that scar I will thank God that my son, Tyler, was not more seriously injured. Sometimes scars can be very good reminders of what God has delivered us from, yet in our selfish discontent we may still forget. Scars come in many shapes and sizes. I just pray that I can always look beyond the
circumstance, whatever it may be, and know God is there, watching over me...and you.
I love you all a whole bunch and will keep you posted regarding the CD release. We are hoping for September sometime.
May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make his face shine upon you!!
Big hugs, Mary
January 30, 2007 Hello and Happy New Year! From my last update until now, time has simply slipped through my fingers. December was very busy with family and ministry events. Then I caught an evil cold that stuck around for a few weeks. It was the only thing that could have forced me to keep quiet for a few weeks.
The biggest news, thus far, is this new and beautiful website designed by Iurie Cojocari from Romania. He contacted me back in December and we began discussing the possibility of a new site design. He loves the Lord and is brilliant! Please visit him at www.grafmedium.com and view his incredible portfolio of work. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him and give him a huge recommendation!!!
I also want to thank my husband, Dan, for all of his hard work. He manages all the content of the site, makes sure that everything works properly, does all my updates, etc. He is my technical genius so to speak. Because of him, we now have videos on the music page, along with so much more! You rock honey!
There are several things in the fire for this year, but I will keep quiet until everything is confirmed. My resolution for the new year is to earnestly seek God's will in everything, grow (not taller or wider) and to love much. Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of ministry I forget the most important thing of all....loving others. It is not that I do not love them, I just do not take the time to show them. It is the whole actions speak louder than words thing.
So, with that, I decided to release "Do You Know My Name" in the UK. Hopefully, it will reach into the hearts of those who need to know that God loves them unconditionally. I continue to pray for the opportunity to record a new CD. Please pray along with me on this...I definitely need the support and intercession!
I am going to sign off for now, but I will return soon for more news. All that He May Increase,
Mary
November 14, 2006
4 months......not too bad huh? The months since my last entry have been a whirlwind for sure. As you may know, we just returned from a week in Nashville. It was a blessing to see our ICM family again! We had the privilege of playing at The Acuff Theatre....our good friend Gary was there and my daughter Jessica also joined us. It was awesome!! I was also able to be a presenter on the award show and that, let me tell you, was a whole a new experience! Backstage, Jess and I met Julie Roberts and the adorable Peasall Sisters. Pics will soon be posted on the gallery!!
We were able to do a few things with our dear friend Jeremiah. He invited us to do a live radio interview at WNAH on Monday and a mini-concert at the Hotel Preston on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, a good friend of Jeremiah's, Pastor Ken Conrey, passed away the evening of my concert at The Preston. It was totally unexpected and he left behind his dear wife Linda. If you are reading this, please pray that the Lord would give her strength and comfort her during this time.
If I am being honest and I normally am, to a fault, I must say that I was disappointed that I did not take home an award...at least one. But, on the plane ride home I was reading Jim Cymbala's book "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire." In the book Jim was talking about how when things did not go Paul's way, he did not retreat.....no, he forged ahead and asked God for boldness! I felt like the Lord said, "I did not take you to Nashville for you to win a trophy, I took you there to learn to live without one." I realized the rich lesson God was teaching me.......who I am in a losing situation is more important than who I am in a winning situation. It is when things do not go my way that my heart is truly revealed. And of course I think of Jesus, perfection on earth and what award was he given...a crown of thorns and a brutal death. It is amazing that I ever feel disappointed about anything. I feel profoundly encouraged and
reminded that God is in all of it and it is all planned for His purposes. We shall see what the new year brings, but more than ever, I desire to be His abandoned token!!
Here or there, until we meet again! xoxoxox Mary
July 27, 2006
My husband tells me that I need to update my journal!! Such pressure.
It is pretty late and we are headed to Palm Springs tomorrow to lead
worship for The Rock Church annual Marriage Retreat. Boy do I have some stories to tell! :0) I have been burning the candle at both ends and although this will be a working weekend, it will still be somewhat of a reprieve.
So much has happened since April 6....I'm not sure where to start. We absolutely loved North Carolina. The people were wonderful and I fell in love with the ambiance of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lord willing we will be back again soon for more music and a more extensive tour route.
We met John and CJ Milroy (the 1st place Chris Austin Gospel category winners). They are absolutely darling people and their music is incredibly creative. Be sure to visit them on line sometime - their link is on my links page. They have the coolest website!!!
Brian moved to Nashville and is now on tour with a band called "Rain". As a result, the Lord sent us Gary Livesay who is now playing lead guitar. Gary is a hoot. Do people say "hoot" anymore? God has also raised up our daughter Jessica to start singing with us. She started to dabble in harmonies last year and now she is nailing it! It is great fun to have her on the team. We will post a few pictures of her on the gallery real soon.
I was recently nominated by the CCMA in the Female Vocalist and Best New Artist categories. I consider this a huge honor, as the ballots are cast by professional members of the association. I will keep you updated on how that is all going.
In addition, a feature story was written about me in Powersource Magazine this month. It is called "Runaway Redemption" and speaks candidly of God's transforming work in my life
God is continuing to open doors and is keeping us pretty busy. Juggling work, music and family has become increasingly difficult. I am praying for clarity in this area, as I hope to move into full-time ministry very soon. We continue to lift the next CD project up in prayer.
That is all for now, simply because I am super tired. I'll be back soon.
Grace and Peace, Mary
April 6, 2006
Hello friends! Yes, it has been forever
and ever....really not that long, but it sure seems
like it. The New Year has been flying by and
much wisdom has been gained along the way. I
think one of the hardest lessons is that "whether I
am abased or whether I abound....I must learn to be
content". That applies to all things,
including that which God calls us to. He will
build the ministry according to His purposes, not
us. With that all said.....God has been doing
some really cool things this year! We just did
a conference in March with Danna Demetre and another
in April with Bobbye Brooks and Tonilee Adamson.
These are all awesome women of God and I count it a
privilege to serve with them.
We entered "Truth Cries Out" into the Chris Austin
Songwriting contest that is held at Merlefest every
year and crazy enough...it was selected as one of
its top 3 gospel entries! So, we are headed to
North Carolina this month. We will also be
worshipping and providing special music for our
friends at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Boone.
I prayed that the Lord would provide a church and
this is where He has placed us. Our friends Brian
and Summer just moved to Nashville, but they will be
meeting us in N.C. so that Brian can play a little
more of that gee-tar with us! Hopefully we
will have some new pictures up soon of him playing
his vintage Tele.
"Sweet Sweet Love" has done real well with radio and
the Powersource Top 20. Thanks to all you
folks who have support me through airplay!!
Hopefully, it will remind some struggling couples
out there of the commitment they had to one another
before all the stuff got in the way. Jesus can
heal the hurting marriages in this land, folks just
have to want it!!!!
Our new guitar
pickin' brother Gary, Dan and I will be leading
worship at The Rock's marriage retreat this year.
It will be held in Palm Springs. I hear that
it is going to be crazy hot, but I am excited about
what God is going to do in the hearts of the couples
who attend!!
We will be at Summer's Past Farms in July and
September. If you have never been out there, I
encourage you to come out, hear some great music and
enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. Visit their website
at
www.summerspastfarms.com to learn more.
P.S. They make the best herbal soap ever!
I have the opportunity to do my next CD with Mitch
Dane (Jars Of Clay and Bebo Norman - shameless name
dropping - think his work with them has won some
Grammy's too). Mitch is a super creative man
of God and it would be a blessing to work with him.
Currently, I am scheduled to be in Nashville from
October to November to record the project. The
main thing that could hold this up is funds.
If you are reading this and are a prayer
warrior.....I covet your prayers on this one.
It is a big step of faith and is something that
would take me way, way out of my comfort zone.
If you have read my front page, you may have seen
something about the SDCC Thailand project. I
am blessed to have the opportunity to share this
cause with others. If you have wanted to help
some folks in need, but have not been sure who to
help, I encourage you to read about this short term
missions project. It is an amazing effort!
Thanks for hanging out with me for a few minutes!
I am rejoicing in all that God is doing in our lives
and yours. I know that He is fulfilling
His plan for each of us daily. When times get
tough, we can always remember that we are simply passing
through...heaven is our home!!
In Christ's Love, Mary
December
25, 2005
Well,
as you can see, we made some changes to the website.
My hubby is a hard workin' guy and continues to fine
tune the site. 2005 has been an awesome year
with the release of my full length freshman project,
"Truth Cries Out". God has been teaching me so much.
One thing I have definitely learned is that it is not
about me. I like to think it is from time to time, but
God settles me right down. Can I get a witness?! I
like to say that, "He has me on the bench from time to
time".
He has shown me that He is strong when I am weak and
that He keeps His promises....and I have had plenty of
weak moments, believe me. He has also taught me that
I am to be content whether I am abased or whether I
abound. (Thanks Paul!) That applies to this silly
music ministry in a big way. I trust wholeheartedly,
that God will put me where He wants me, I just need to
be available.
He has also been showing me about my critical nature.
I wrote this down in my journal the other day, "We are
so busy examining the effort, we cannot see the heart
behind it." God has allowed me to work with many
different church bodies this last year and through it
I have seen many shapes and sizes when it comes to
serving believers. It has been a huge joy and a
blessing to work with so many sweet people!
I was able to work with Shadow Mountain Community
church in their production of "A Smoky Mountain
Christmas" as well as providing special music for
their Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services. It
was a huge blessing and I am humbled that I was able
to be a part of the ministry this year. Thanks to
everyone!
I extend my deepest thanks to those of you who have
prayed for me this last year. God is good! I love
you all!
Many, many hours were spent serving at The Rock Church
and we saw many, many people come to faith in Christ.
It is awesome to be a part of a church that is driven
to reach the unsaved. I have had the awesome
opportunity to work with my buds....Brian, James, Ed,
Brandon, Shawn, Carolyn, Sherry, Joe, Chris and of
course Dan!! Love ya'll so much!!
This last year has been tough when it comes to
cancer. My good friends and worship leaders, Chris
Surdock and Carolyn Shafer have both faced this awful
battle. I can tell you this, they have shown me what
it means to stand on the rock. Without the Lord at
the center of their lives, I know that they could not
have handled this battle with such strength.
There is just oodles to share, but I must close. A
joyful Merry Christmas to you my friends. May His
peace be with you always!
In Christ's Love, Mary
November 15, 2005
Hey waz up ya'll! Not sure how many of you make
your way
down to this part of my news page but for those
of you that do .......heeeeyyyyy!! A bit of
time has passed since my last entry, sorry. We just
got back from beautiful Nashville and boy we had a
blast! It was great to meet so many Christian Country
artists. The CCMA was kind enough to bless me with a
little award (you can see details above) and Dan,
Brian and I had a great time playin' the Gibson. The
folks said that they liked our cool California Country
rock thing!! Brian was the one who brought on the
cool factor. Love ya' brother!
It was an awesome introduction to the Christian
Country Music organization of believers and I look
forward to many more years of involvement - Lord
willing. It is so cool to meet so many people who
have a desire to lift up the name of Jesus Christ.
When I started listening to Country music it was one
of the cleaner genres of music...but things are really
changing. I pray that the Lord raises up Christian
Country music in a mighty, mighty way. I pray that
the artists continue to seek excellence in their music
and live lives which bring honor to Christ.
We attended the Inspirational Country Music
Awards.....it was awesome but the big treat for me was
seeing Wynonna and Natalie Grant sing their next
single. I have always been a big Wy fan.
Thanks to all of you out there that have been praying
for me. I need it big time. God has been using my
testimony throughout the globe and the warfare has
been very rough. Pray warriors are precious. The
latest interview was with Don Taylor / God's Own
Country - Australia, which went out to over 270
stations. Hopefully, we will be adding the interview
to the site so you can listen. Don did a great job
producing the show and I pray that it reaches some
people who are searching for truth.
Well, I am going to sign off tonight but I will be
back soon. May the peace of Jesus fill your hearts
and minds!
Love, Mary
August 25, 2005
Hi my sweet friends! So much has been going on -
WOW! God has been providing so many opportunities to
share His love with others - it is so fun for me to
see His hand at work, not only in the ministry that He
has provided for me, but in the ministries that He has
designed for other willing servants.
The Rock Women's Retreat was great, the concert was a
total spirit filled evening and Nancy Stafford, our
speaker, was full of the words God needed us to hear.
She delivered a message that we need to be
reminded of, "God loves us so much! How easy it is
for us to forget that and instead believe the lies of
the world (which usually tell us that we have fallen
short somehow)." Working with Tonilee Adamson
and Bobbye Brooks at the Daily Disciples conference on
July 23rd was a wonderful God filled day as well. God
pours through His people in such an amazing way!
I do not have a lot of time tonight but I wanted to
share this word with you...
"Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
All Your waves and billows have gone over me. The
Lord will command His loving kindness in the daytime,
And in the night His song shall be with me - A prayer
to the God of my life. " Psalm 42:7-8
This Psalm is about yearning to God in the midst
of trouble....I am not experiencing troubles in my
life or anything (at least not at the moment), I just
thought the words were soothing and beautiful as we
take on each day, head on, with the Lord as our
comforter. Sweet dreams and blessings to you all!!
Love, Mary
July 17, 2005
Greetings to you in our Lord Jesus. I pray you
are full of the peace that only He can provide!!
My news by the way is never my news, it is God's
news. He is the one who facilitates and provides.
Maybe it goes without saying, but as Psalm 34 says,
"Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His
name together." So, here is what's up....... "Truth
Cries Out", my first radio release, is doing very well
and is being played by quite a few DJ's out there -
much thanks again to radio for playing the music. I
also released "Praise To The Maker" to radio through
PraiseDisc (Disc #34). It was sent out to all the
regular non-country Christian stations nationwide at
the beginning of July. For those of you who own my
CD's, you know that I love a variety of musical styles
and the music definitely crosses over!
Jim Tucker of The Sunrise Show interviewed me
recently and kindly added the interview to his website
(www.sunriseshow.net). It is about 15 minutes and
discusses the Lord's transforming work in my life.
Part of the interview will be broadcast to 11 stations
July 24th.
The Rock Church has asked me to begin leading
worship on a regular basis. This is amazing to
me and profoundly humbling. I welcome your prayers
over the work God is calling me into.
The band and I will be leading worship for
a Women's Conference July 23rd at Point Loma Nazarene
College. This event is being help by the Daily
Disciple Ministries. It is a free event offered to
the community. Speakers such as Dana Sturgeon will
teaching on the subject of "For Such A Time As
This....Change".
Dan and I have made plans to attend the
Inspirational Country Music Convention and Awards
Ceremony in November. The convention will be held at
The Grand Ol' Opry Hotel and the awards show will be
held at the Ryman (the old Grand Ol' Opry). Word has
it that I will be showcasing while I am down there. I
will provide more details as I learn more.
That's it for now family! This about covers the big
stuff.....I will get back to ya' real soon!
In His Hands, Mary
P.S. Here is a little saying I heard recently
that is pretty cool....."Do not fall to the standard of the world, rise to the
standard of the Word."

June 1, 2005
Howdy there! May was a great month....think I
have already covered most of it..."Truth Cries Out" is
being released to 1000 Christian Country radio
stations nationwide as of June 2005. This is
happening thanks to my promotions agreement with HMG
Nashville. I am now part of the CCMA (Christian
Country Music Association) and the GMA (Gospel Music
Association)...workin' to get myself plugged in with
those folks. As of April I am a new artist with Indie
Heaven, two of my songs have been in their top 10 and
another in the top 30. Brian Martin, my incredible
guitar player left for six months due to his military
duties. Please be praying for him as he is out
serving our country for the next 6 months. I am also
working with NCM in the U.K. regarding possible
airplay abroad...we will see how all this turns out.
This section of Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His
Highest, has really ministered to me.....May 7th...
"All that we build is going to be inspected by God.
Is God going to detect in His searching fire that we
have built on the foundation of Jesus some enterprise
of our own? These are days of tremendous enterprises,
days when we are trying to work for God and therein is
the snare. Profoundly speaking, we can never work for
God. Jesus takes us over for His enterprises, his
building schemes entirely, and no soul has any right
to claim where he shall be put."
Amen to that!!!! Talk to you soon. Love, Mary
May 6, 2005
Ok....I am back. I just want to say that God has
taught me so much about what faith really means. So
often I want to step out in faith...but with some sort
of safety net. Once I experience God's hand in some
part of my life or in my ministry (after I have
practiced surrender) I am always so blown away. But,
when I am called to take another step of faith, it is
like I have forgotten what God has done and I have to
learn the lesson all over again......it reminds me of
the disciples. If I live my life in faith, I will not
fret or worry for I trust in the Lord. I pray you are
blessed by the love and faithfulness of our amazing
God! Love, Mary
P.S. The "Truth Cries Out" ministry video is
here.....check it out on the
Music
page!!
"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for
he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that
He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."
